In their first out-of-conference game of the season, the Devils lost, 5-2, Friday against the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. Steve Zalewski and Raman Hrabarenka scored for the Devils, but the Americans used a pair of shorthanded goals to propel them to their ninth victory.
Zalewski, netted his first goal of the season. He scored atop the goal crease at 14:44 of the second period to make the score 2-1. Hrabarenka netted his first professional goal with a shot from the point at 7:57 of the third. Rochester’s Brian Flynn followed with an empty-net goal at 18:50 to produce the final score and cap his hat trick bid.
Jeff Frazee lost his first game in regulation since Oct. 19. He made 26 saves. At the other end, David Leggio made 33 stops.

Albany 1 vs. Syracuse 4

During the second stop of their three-game weekend, the Devils lost, 4-1, against the Syracuse Crunch Saturday at Times Union Center. Joe Whitney registered his first goal of the season, but the Crunch received goals from Cory Conacher, Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn and Richard Panik.
Whitney’s tally came as the Devils trailed 1-0 early in the second. Syracuse’s scoring began with a blast from Conacher at 14:52 of the first. After Whitney’s tally, the Crunch took the lead on Johnson’s goal at 10:26 and Killorn’s tally at 13:04 of the second. Panik concluded the scoring at 8:17 of the third.
Between the pipes, Keith Kinkaid made 21 saves on 25 shots. Syracuse’s Riku Helenius posted the victory with 18 stops on 19 attempts.

Albany 4 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5 — Shootout

In the first of four Devils games at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, the Devils and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins gave the fans 65 minutes of action followed by a five-round shootout. In the end, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Jayson Megna scored the lone shootout goal, giving his team a 5-4 victory Sunday afternoon.
Mattias Tedenby, Bobby Butler, Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson each had goals. Butler, who also had an assist, led all Devils scorers with two points. In goal, Keith Kinkaid made 31 saves in his second start in as many nights.
The Penguins received two goals from Tom Kuhnhackl and tallies from Brian Gibbons and Trevor Smith. Both Kuhnhackl and Gibbons added assists to their stat lines. Goaltender Brad Thiessen turned aside 28 shots.
