Albany 4 at Manchester 7
In a game that included 10 goals, including six in the third period, the Devils fell short, 7-4, against the Monarchs Saturday at Verizon Wireless Arena. The Devils attempted to erase a three-goal deficit in the third by scoring three goals, but the Monarchs withstood the charge, holding on for their third straight victory. For Albany, the setback halted a three-game winning streak.
Five of the game’s last seven goals came on the power play. The Devils went 3-for-7 with the man advantage, while the Monarchs went 2-for-3.
Matt Anderson, Harri Pesonen and Steve Zalewski each registered multi-point games. Anderson had three assists, while Pesonen and Zalewski both posted a goal and an assist. Adam Larsson and Mattias Tedenby supplied goals and Jay Leach, Corbin McPherson and Joe Whitney had assists.
For Manchester, Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli both had a pair of goals and an assist. Linden Vey posted four helpers and Bryan Rodney registered two assists. Andrei Loktionov, Brian O’Neill and Jordan Weal also had tallies.
Sat., Jan. 6 at Times Union Center
Albany 4 vs. Worcester 1
Eric Gelinas, Mattias Tedenby and Steve Zalewski each contributed a goal and an assist in the Devils 4-1 win against the Sharks Saturday at Times Union Center in front of a season-high crowd of 7,321.
Albany trailed after Worcester’s Freddie Hamilton opened the scoring at 7:16 of the first. From there, Zalewski evened the score at 19:25 of the first on a wraparound bid.
Tedenby gave the Devils a 2-1 advantage at 3:15 of the second and Gelinas extended it to 3-1 at 18:54. Darcy Zajac put the game out of reach at 8:44 of the third.
Albany went 1-for-4 with the man advantage. Keith Kinkaid earned his fifth consectutive win by making 16 saves on 17 shots.
Sun., Jan. 7 at Boardwalk Hall
Albany 4 vs. Bridgeport 5
Despite erasing a two-goal deficit with less than five minutes remaining, the Devils were overcome by a late tally by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In the end, the Sound Tigers Matt Donovan’s game-winning goal with 1:16 remaining gave his team a 5-4 victory Sunday. The game marked the second of four home games for the Devils at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.
Trailing 4-2 late in the third, the Devils clawed back first with a power-play goal by Joe Whitney at 15:16 and then pulled even thanks to Chris McKelive at 16:48.
A goalie interference penalty handed the Sound Tigers a power play at 17:17, making way for the game-winner.
Kelly Zajac, who was recalled along with Bryan Haczyk from Trenton (ECHL) before the game, netted his first career AHL goal and added an assist. Phil DeSimone was responsible for the Devils first goal and Brandon Burlon tied a career high with two assists. In goal, Keith Kinkaid made 24 saves on 29 shots.
Nino Niederreiter and Aarron Ness paced Bridgeport’s offensive efforts. Niederreiter had two goals and Ness had a goal and two assists. Defensively, Kevin Poulin earned his 11th win with 32 saves on 26 shots.
